KV63 - where it is NOT

ref: February 14, 2006, "KV63"

According to a little map included with a press report on the BBC website, the newly found KV63 would be close to the entrance of KV9. This can be seen when the little BBC map is rotated in such a way that it can be compared with a more detailed map on the website of the Lambert Dolphin et al team (SRI International & Ain Shams University). (When comparing, note the compass and the underground parts of Tutankhamun's tomb.) Both maps also can easily be compared with a photo that shows part of the "retainer wall" having been taken down by modern workmen of the ARTP who were (at that time) in the process of excavating a section with ancient workmen's huts next to KV9. It seems that the BBC source was confusing the location of KV63 (found under workmen's huts) with these workmen's huts next to KV9.

Photo 1: The location of KV63 according to the BBC map, which was based on a TMP map. This rotated version was prepared by John Legon.

Photo 2: The marked spot of the BBC map transfered to the map of Dolphin by John Legon.

Photo 3: Photo of the relevant section of the Valley of the Kings as taken by Gitta Warnemünde. (The photographer was standing next to the resthouse on the hill opposite to KV62 (tomb of Tutankhamun). The picture was taken in November 2000.)
